OHMYJOB! came to Brussels

The second edition of the event for graduates

We hosted the second edition of OHMYJOB, this time in Brussels. What is OHMYJOB? It’s our event for (soon to be) graduate students where we invite three keynote speakers to share their experience and insights with them. We host a cosy evening with food and drinks and plenty of networking opportunities. That way, we hope to inspire recent (or soon to be) graduates to discover more about their career options, to learn how to gather work experience and find out about trends in the current labor market. Keep reading for a short recap of the evening.

I would say that the event couldn’t be better. It was a very familial, inspiring, and enjoyable evening. I really appreciated this evening, and I am glad to have been a part of it.

An ever-changing and diverse landscape

Mieke Meul, HR Manager Belgium & Luxembourg at Johnson Controls broke the ice with her talk about navigating diverse corporate cultures. For young people entering the workforce, the workplace is often a complex social environment. Mieke shared her personal journey on how she sometimes made mistakes, impulsive decisions and how it shaped her world view. How can we embrace the working culture and communication styles in different settings or countries? How can we learn from people with habits that seem different from ours? These questions help us get ready for an ever-evolving multicultural landscape and workforce.

It’s OK to be indecisive

Sébastien Cobut, Managing Director of Securex Consulting, opened with a powerful statement: “You’re a crap student, so what?”. He challenged the conventional notion that your academic history defines your professional future. He posed thought-provoking questions to open the conversation. By asking his public of that night the right questions and challenging the status quo, he opened their eyes to their opportunities. He used his own professional trajectory as an example that sometimes, making an unexpected decision will help you find your own path.

Embrace mistakes

Yannick Van Ro, Talent Development Manager at Ormit Talent, closed the night with his talk about embracing moments of failure in your career. He shared his experience with failure or giving up and demonstrated that it’s not always a negative thing. Yannick emphasized the importance of making career choices based on personal growth and learning, rather than succumbing to external pressures or expectations. His presentation highlighted the invaluable lessons that can come from mistakes, reinforcing the idea that failure is a powerful tool for growth.

We learn from each other

The three keynote speakers each brought unique perspectives and personal stories to the evening. That’s why we organize OHMYJOB! We want to inspire young people who are getting ready to take the first steps of their career. In return, we learn a lot from them through the questions they ask and the doubts or opinions they may have formed during their education. At Pauwels Consulting, we like to stay in tune with the changes in the job market, and there is no better way than to get connected.

Another successful evening

We asked the participants how they felt about OHMYJOB.

“I would say that the event couldn’t be better. It was a very familial, inspiring, and enjoyable evening. I really appreciated this evening, and I am glad to have been a part of it”.

It is wonderful to receive feedback like this. We hope to welcome many more young graduates in the future!
